The College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics was founded in July 2007, and is committed to providing programs of excellence in engineering, technology, physical and biological sciences, computer and information sciences, and mathematics. The mission of the STEM College is to deliver integrated programs of excellence to an engaged learning community.
The College fosters intellectual growth through integration of learning, scholarship, and service, that:
- expands the talents of its constituencies, including students and faculty, business and industry, government, with synergistic activities in and beyond the classroom; and,
- prepares our graduates for a multidisciplinary world through a flexible and diverse curriculum; and,
- meets the needs for a well educated and skilled workforce for economic growth with industrial partnerships, research, and scholarship.

 Martin A. Abraham, P.E., received his B.S. in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his Ph.D. from the University of Delaware. Dr. Abraham joined Youngstown State University as Professor of Chemical Engineering and Founding Dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in July 2007, after serving as Professor and Dean of the College of Graduate Studies at the University of Toledo. The STEM College, with ten departments and over 100 faculty, seeks to deliver integrated programs of excellence to an engaged learning community, through outstanding academic programs, the expansion of graduate education, economic development in the community, and K-12 outreach in support of science and math education.
In addition to his duties as Dean, Dr. Abraham maintains an active research program in reaction engineering and catalysis. He has over 70 refereed publications and over 100 technical presentations in the area of green engineering and sustainability. He serves as a member of the Board of Advisors for the Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition, working with the symposium and education committees, and is also a member of the Board for the Youngstown Business Incubator and the Children’s Center for Science and Technology of the Mahoning Valley. He serves as editor for the American Institute of Chemical Engineer’s quarterly, Environmental Progress and Sustainable Energy. He is a Fellow of the American Chemical Society, a Councilor for the Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Division, and Chair for the Committee on Environmental Improvement.
