Electrical and computer engineering students are encouraged to acquire membership in the student chapter of the IEEE. In addition, chapter meetings are open to any interested persons.
Outstanding electrical engineering students may be eligible for election into Tau Beta Pi (national engineering honorary society) and Phi Kappa Phi (honorary society for all disciplines). Look elsewhere for information about YSU chapters.
The YSU Student IEEE Chapter
A non-profit organization, IEEE is the world’s leading and largest professional association for the advancement of technology worldwide. The IEEE name was originally an acronym for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. Today, the organization’s scope of interest has expanded into so many related fields, that it is simply referred to by the letters I‑E‑E‑E (pronounced Eye‑triple‑E).
Most IEEE members are electrical engineers, computer engineers, and computer scientists, but the organization’s wide scope of interests has attracted engineers in other disciplines (e.g., mechanical and civil engineering) as well as biologists, physicists, and mathematicians.
Meetings and activities are available to those interested in participating. Look for posted notices in Moser Hall or communicate with the student leaders listed below. The YSU Chapter faculty advisor is Dr. F. Mossayebi.
