The College of STEM at Youngstown State University invites students and employers to partake in the College’s Professional Practice Program. The STEM Professional Practice Program promotes the partnership between students, employers and faculty members through various venues of Career Exploration and Development.
The College of STEM is driven to promote a healthy and innovative “Cutting Edge” future for the development and growth of America’s young professionals. We also strive to provide employers with these students so they can maintain such a skilled and well educated workforce.
The Office of STEM Professional Practice Program is the centralized unit responsible for the co-op/internship/professional practice courses for over 2,900 undergraduate and graduate students in the College of STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines.

The Professional Practice Program in the College of STEM at Youngstown State University is designed to provide qualified students the opportunity to relate their academic training to a unique hands-on opportunity in their chosen discipline. This Program will provide students an orientation course that not only teaches them the fundamentals of professional preparation, but also the appropriate steps on how to obtain an experiential learning experience. Once the orientation course has been completed, then a student can move forward by participating in a cooperative education/internship/professional practice course.
The Coordinator for the Professional Practice Program will assist with facilitating the relationship between the student and the employer. Once the partnership has been infused and established, then a faculty advisor will be identified to not only maintain fostering the connection between the student, the employer and the College, but also the ability to unify the gap between academics and the corporate world.
