Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering

Students Outside Moser HallThe Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Materials Science and Engineering is a cutting-edge program, employing state-of-the-art analytical materials instrumentation not found anywhere else in the region between Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

Incorporating the research activities from the YSU Center of Excellence in Materials Science and Engineering (CEMSE) and the Ohio Hub for Innovation and Opportunity in Advanced Materials Commercialization, this program promotes the synergistic interaction of industrially focused research efforts of faculty, students, and commercial research partners leading to economic development of the region.

The Ph.D. is specifically targeted at producing graduates who can find employment as an industrial research scientist or engineer. Interested students are encouraged to apply using the application information available throughout this site. For full consideration, including consideration for assistantships and other scholarships, applications should be received by February 1st.

The Materials Science and Engineering Ph.D. program builds on research programs of faculty from several departments within STEM to provide students with an interdisciplinary fundamental and applied research-based education suitable for seeking employment in industry or academia.
