 Family and Consumer Sciences Education

The Family and Consumer Sciences Education program prepares students to teach in educational programs at the secondary and adult levels and meets the course requirements for the Family and Consumer Sciences Teaching License required to teach in Ohio's schools.

The four-year program includes a specified curriculum including one semester of supervised student teaching in a secondary school. Graduates will receive a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and will be required to pass the Praxis II examination for teachers in order to receive a teaching license.

This program is jointly administered by the College of Education and the Department of Human Ecology. Academic advisors in the College of Education as well as the teacher educator in the Department of Human Ecology should be consulted regularly.

The Family and Consumer Sciences Education major leads to a BS. in Ed or an M.S. Ed. degree.

Successful candidates for the B.S. in Ed. degree will be able to obtain an Ohio Teaching License in family and Consumer Sciences. This license will enable graduates to teach at the secondary and adult level in public and private schools in Ohio. Interested students should contact the department chairperson or the program coordinator in order to receive up-to-date information on program and degree requirements. Requirements include admission to upper division in the Beeghly College of Education and successful student teaching.

Licensed Family and Consumer Sciences teachers may pursue a Master's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences teacher education. Core degree requirements are established by the College of Education and the College of Graduate Studies and Research. Courses in Family and Consumer Sciences will be determined by the student working closely with the program coordinator.
