Teaching Assistant

Geological and Environmental Sciences

The Teaching/Graduate Assistantship enables our graduate students to focus on their own classes, as well as to make progress in their research activities as they work towards completing their MS thesis.

Teaching/Graduate Assistants in the Environmental Studies program will typically involve the teaching of undergraduate laboratory courses such as Environmental Studies, ENST 1500L or Environmental Geology, GEOL 1500L.  These are lab courses for non-science major.  Additional departmental duties may include computer room monitoring, lab prep work, or assisting with other classes.  In addition each TA/GA is required to have 10 hours of office hours per week.

The typical duties and responsibilities of a Teaching/Graduate Assistant are detailed in the Graduate Bulletin under Financial Assistance.

Typically a Teaching/Graduate Assistantship is available for 4 semesters (2 years) as long as the student is in good standing and is making good progress towards their degree.  A TA/GA includes a fall and spring stipend and graduate course tuition remission (see School of Graduate Studies and Research for more detail).

Summer stipends are available through the School of Graduate Studies & Research in conjunction with the student’s thesis advisor.
