Profile:
Prior to arriving at YSU in 2007, Dr. Tessmer worked for Morehead State University in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Sport Sciences. Previous to Morehead State, Dr. Tessmer was a graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Human Performance in the Health and Physical Activity Department. Currently, Dr. Tessmer serves as an Assistant Professor in Exercise Science. She oversees student internships, advises students, and teaches several ES courses. Dr. Tessmer has been a certified Health/Fitness Specialist from the American College of Sports Medicine since 2003.
Research Area or Specialty:
Dr. Tessmer’s specialties focus on various topics, including perceived exertion, clinical exercise testing, and psychological aspects of exercise involvement. Primary research foci are RPE and various populations, different protocols, as well as the connection between the physiological and psychosocial aspects of exercise. Most recently, Dr. Tessmer has been involved in a validation study of the Body Media Senswear Pro Armband for activities of daily living.
